Common faults & solutions in roots blower openration of VPSA oxygen plant

2018 01/20

Common faults & solutions in roots blower openration of VPSA oxygen plant are listed below.

  1. Overtemperature

Cause of fault

Solution

• The oil level is too high, and the oil is too thick, dirty.

Lower the oil level; replace the thick or dirty oil.

The filter or muffler is clogged.

Unclog the filter or muffler.

The pressure is higher than the specified valve.

Reduce the differential pressure across the blower.

The impeller is excessively worn and the impeller clearance is large.

Restore the impeller clearance.

High inlet temperature caused by poor ventilation and high indoor temperature.

Set vents to improve ventilation and lower the indoor temperature.

The operating speed is too low, and the belt slips;

Increase the operating speed to prevent the belt from slipping.

  1. 2. The flow rate is insufficient.

Cause of fault

Solution

Inlet air filter is clogged.

Unclog the inlet air filter.

The impeller is worn and the impeller clearance is too large.

Repair the impeller to narrow down the impeller clearance.

The belt slips.

Tighten the belt and increase the number of belts.

The loss of inlet pressure is high.

Adjust the inlet pressure to the specified value.

Pipeline leakages exist.

Locate and repair the cracks.

  1. 4. Oil leakage.

Cause of fault

Solution

The fuel level is too high, and the oil leaks out from the oil outlet.

Lower the oil level.

The seal is worn, causing oil leakage at the shaft end.

Replace the seal.

The pressure is higher than the specified value.

Unclog vents.

The vent connecting the wall panels and the tank is clogged, causing the oil leaking into the enclosure.

Unclog the vent by opening the 2 mm cock below the wall panel.

  1. 5. Abnormal vibration and noise.

Cause of fault

Solution

The rolling bear clearance exceeds the specified value or the bearing seat is worn.

Replace the bearing or bearing housing.

The backlash of the gear is too large, misaligned, and the fixing is not tight.

Reinstall the gears and ensure proper gaps of gears.

The impellers collide with each other or with the casing owing to the sucked-in dusts.

Clean the impellers and check whether the casing is damaged.

The impellers colide with the casing owing to overload and shaft deformation.

Check the back pressure, the impeller alignment, adjust the impeller clearance.

The inpeller and the casing are worn around the inlet.

Check the filter and the back pressure, increase the gap between the impellers and the casing.

The impellers are out of balance due to fouling or foreign matters.

Clean the impellers and casing to ensure the proper working clearnce of the impellers.

The anchor bolts and other fasteners are loose.

Tighten the anchor bolts and level the foundation.

  1. 6. Overload of the motor.

Cause of fault

Solution

The pressure difference (i.e. the back pressure, or the inlet pressure) is larger than the specified value.

Lower the pressure to the specified value.

The flow rate is higher than the capacity, causing excess pressure.

Release excessive air or lower the blower speed.
